Thunderkick opened 2025 with this one, and you can tell they wanted a statement piece. Archie O’Loggins is a moustachioed adventurer knee-deep in some vaguely Mesoamerican temple, prising enchanted masks off the walls while dynamite and grenades go off around him. It’s the studio’s usual polish: warm torchlit palette, chunky hand-drawn symbols, a soundtrack that swells nicely when the cascades get going. Nothing here reinvents the tomb-raider wheel, but Thunderkick rarely phone in the art, and they haven’t here. It looks and sounds like a game that cost real money to make.

How it plays

Forget reels in the traditional sense. This is a 7x7 grid running cluster pays, so you’re matching five or more of a kind in adjacent blobs rather than lining anything up. Wins clear via a cascading avalanche mechanic, new symbols drop in, and the chain rolls on until nothing lands. Standard fare for the genre, executed cleanly.

Where it earns its keep is the wilds. There are several flavours, and they’re the reason to bother. Grenade Wilds pick one or two low-pay symbols and upgrade every instance on the grid; Dynamite Wilds do the opposite, blowing a low-pay symbol clean off so better ones can fall in; and the sticky Mask Wilds shuffle to an adjacent spot each time they land in a win. Get two Mask Wilds on screen and the Wild Field feature fires, flooding a highlighted zone with regular wilds. It’s busy in the good way, and the base game never feels dead.

The feature

The headline event is the Bonus Game free spins, triggered by scatters, opening with 10 spins and +5 on each retrigger. You can also buy in directly for 100x stake if you’d rather not wait. The twist worth caring about: high-pay symbols swallowed by the Wild Field pick up a growing x1 multiplier that persists across the round. That’s your route to the ceiling, and it’s a proper carrot. I’ll be straight, though, my hands-on demo sessions leaned on the base-game wilds far more than the bonus, which is typical of high-variance cluster games, and I couldn’t independently confirm trigger frequency from a source I’d stand behind, so treat that as a demo impression rather than gospel.

Verdict

This is a good, not great, Thunderkick outing. The wild suite is genuinely clever and gives the base game more personality than most cluster grids manage, and 10,000x is a respectable top end for the volatility on offer. What holds me back is that 94.16% base RTP — that’s a below-average default, and on a very-high-variance game where the ceiling is rare, the lower return bites harder in the day-to-day. Lovely to look at, fun to spin, mathematically stingier than it needs to be.
