Sic Bo (骰寶, “precious dice”) is one of the oldest dice games in Asia and a fixture in casinos from Macau to Manila. It’s pure chance — three dice, one shake, a betting grid full of options. That simplicity is the appeal, but it also means there’s no skill that beats the maths. This guide walks through the rules, the main bets, and the odds so you know exactly what you’re wagering on.
How a Round Works
Three dice sit inside a shaker or an automated dome. You place chips on the betting table, the dealer shakes, the dice are revealed, and winning bets are paid. That’s the whole loop. There’s no decision-making mid-round and no strategy that changes the outcome — once the dice are shaken, the result is fixed.
Most online versions use a digital grid identical to the live table. If you’re browsing titles, you’ll find Sic Bo grouped with other dice and table games over in /games, and you can compare studios on /providers.
The Main Bets
Small and Big. Small wins if the three dice total 4–10; Big wins if they total 11–17. Both lose on any triple. These are the closest things to even-money bets, paying 1:1, and they’re where most newcomers start.
Specific Total. You bet on the exact sum of all three dice (from 4 to 17). Payouts climb steeply for rare totals — a total of 4 or 17 pays far more than a middle total like 10 or 11, because the middle sums occur much more often.
Single Number. Pick a number 1–6. If it appears on one die you’re paid 1:1, on two dice 2:1, and on all three 3:1. A gentle bet with frequent small hits.
Double and Triple. A Double bets that a specific pair appears; a Triple bets all three dice show the same chosen number. A “specific triple” carries the biggest headline payout on the table — and the longest odds. There’s also an “any triple” bet covering all six triples at once.
Combination. You bet that two specific numbers both appear (e.g. a 2 and a 5). It pays modestly and lands reasonably often.
Odds and the House Edge
Here’s the honest part: every Sic Bo bet carries a house edge, and the casino keeps it on the long run no matter how you play. The edge varies a lot by bet. Small and Big are typically among the lowest-edge options on the table, while specific triples — despite the eye-catching payout — usually carry one of the highest edges precisely because they hit so rarely. Bigger payouts almost always mean worse odds; that trade-off is baked in.
No betting pattern, sequence, or “system” changes this. Past rolls don’t influence future ones — the dice have no memory. Playing Sensibly
Sic Bo is best treated as entertainment with a known cost, not a way to make money. Stick to the lower-edge bets if you want longer play, set a budget before you start, and walk away when it’s spent.
