Another trip down the Nile, then. I’ve reviewed enough Egyptian slots to build my own pyramid out of the discarded ones, so Quickspin’s Scepter of Anubis had to work to hold my attention. Credit where it’s due: the studio leans into the underworld angle rather than the usual sun-baked-tomb cliche. It’s all torch-lit blues and blacks, with the jackal-headed god looming over a 5-reel, 4-row grid that feels more crypt than treasure chamber. The symbols are crisp, the Anubis wild has genuine presence, and the audio does that low, ominous thing without tipping into panto. It’s handsome. It is not, however, doing anything your eyes haven’t seen a dozen times.

How it plays

Standard 40-line setup, stakes from 0.10 to 100, and a base game that hangs almost everything on one hook: the Anubis wild. He shows up as a big 4x1 stacked wild that, when it lands partially, has a random chance to nudge into full position on the reel, and when he lands or nudges home he hands you a respin. More wilds during that respin, more respins. It’s a clean, readable mechanic and honestly the best part of the base game, because otherwise you’re grinding through a lot of dead air. There’s an Extra Bet that costs 2x your stake, nudges RTP to 96.34% and juices your trigger odds, plus a Feature Buy if you haven’t the patience. High volatility means exactly what it says: long dry stretches punctuated by the occasional gasp.

The feature

The headline act is Free Spins and its bigger sibling, Super Free Spins. Land three, four or five scatters or Anubis wilds and you’re into 8, 12 or 16 free spins; wilds expand to cover full reels and stick. Fine, if unremarkable. The real reason to care is Super Free Spins, triggered by a Super Bonus symbol landing on the rightmost reel alongside two-to-four wilds/bonus symbols. Here’s the kicker: whenever a wild covers a full reel, a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 5x or a lovely 100x gets slapped onto that spin and its following respin. That 100x tag is where the 10,000x ceiling actually lives, and it’s the only part of this game that made me sit up.

Verdict

Scepter of Anubis is a competent, good-looking slot that never quite escapes the gravity of its own genre. The nudging Anubis wild and the 100x Super Free Spins multiplier give it a spine, and the 10,000x potential is respectable. But the theme is well-worn, the base game leans hard on a single feature, and there’s nothing here I’ll remember next month. It’s a solid B-tier grinder, not a keeper — and that watch-your-operator RTP spread, dropping as low as the high 80s in some markets, is a genuine red flag worth checking before you spin.
