Let me clear something up before we start: the game everyone calls “Payday” is properly titled Outsourced: Payday, and it’s a December 2024 release (live to partners 17 December 2024) from Nolimit City’s experimental Labs division. So if you came here for a heist-and-briefcases theme, adjust expectations. This is corporate satire — the same grimy, overworked office-drone world as the original Outsourced, only now you’re literally on a factory line watching a mechanical claw stab at symbols sliding past on a conveyor belt.

Visually it’s classic Nolimit City: muted, slightly miserable, deliberately unglamorous, with that sardonic sense of humour baked into every animation. I like it. It doesn’t beg you to love it, and the claw thunking down onto the belt has a satisfying, faintly cruel weight to it. Presentation is strong without being showy.

How it plays

Forget spinning reels — the “5-reel” label doesn’t really fit here. Each spin, a single row of five symbols slides across the belt (a 1-1-1-1-1 layout), and a claw drops to grab one. The catch, and it’s the whole game, is that the claw can drop what it grabs. You watch it hover, clamp, and either hold or fumble your multiplier symbol. Values run 0x, 2x, 4x, 10x, 20x, 50x, 100x up to 1,000x.

It’s a genuinely novel loop, and the tension of watching a big multiplier wobble in the claw’s grip is real. Whether you find that thrilling or faintly maddening depends on your tolerance for near-misses being built directly into the machine.

The headline bonus is Claw Spins. Land — and keep — the bonus symbol in the claw and you get three Claw Spins, where only multipliers above 2x appear. Each further bonus symbol grabbed during the round adds three more spins. Verdict

Outsourced: Payday is one of the more inventive slots I’ve played recently, and I respect it for that. The claw mechanic is a proper idea, not a reskin, and the humour lands. But two things temper my enthusiasm: 10,000x is modest by Nolimit City’s own insane standards, and the “drop” mechanic means the game spends a lot of its time actively taking things away from you, which some will read as tension and others as needling. It’s clever more than it is generous.
