Theme & presentation
I’ve reviewed enough Hacksaw grids to spot the house style at ten paces, and Get the Cheese is exactly what it sounds like: a cartoon mouse, a wheel of holey cheese, and a colour palette that leans hard into yellows and warm oranges. It’s charming in the low-effort way a lot of these snack-themed releases are charming — clean vector art, a bouncy little soundtrack, symbols that read instantly on a 6x5 grid. Nothing here is going to hang in a gallery, but nothing grates either. The mouse mascot squeaks approvingly when clusters pop, which is either endearing or mildly irritating depending on how many spins deep you are. I landed somewhere in the middle.
How it plays
This is cluster pays, not lines. You connect five or more matching symbols horizontally or vertically and they pay out, then vanish so new symbols tumble in — standard cascade mechanics. Base clusters of five start small (fractions of your bet) and only get interesting once you’re stacking 16-plus matching symbols. The real engine is the Jumping Wild Multiplier: a wild that lands, substitutes, and then hops to a new position each cascade, climbing its multiplier as it goes. Normal wilds start at 1x and add +1x per jump; the Epic variant starts at 10x and climbs +10x. Up to four can share the grid. It’s a tidy loop, and the cascades keep things ticking over without ever feeling frantic.
The feature
There are three free-spin tiers, unlocked by scatters. Fromage Frenzy (3 scatters) hands you 8 spins with 2 persistent Jumping Wilds, but the multiplier values reset each spin — the weakest of the bunch. Take It Cheesy (4 scatters) bumps you to 10 spins and 3 persistent wilds. The headline act is Life’s So Gouda (5 or 6 scatters): 12 free spins, 4 persistent Jumping Wilds, at least one guaranteed Epic, and crucially the multiplier values do NOT reset between spins. That persistence is where the 10,000x actually becomes plausible — you’re compounding Epic multipliers across a dozen spins. Get to Gouda and the game finally justifies itself; get stuck buying Fromage Frenzy and you’ll wonder what the fuss was.
The numbers, straight
- Max win: 10,000x (verified; hittable in any mode, not just the top bonus)
- RTP: 96.31% default, dropping through tiers at 94.20% / 92.29% / 88.25% — check which one your casino serves
- Volatility: Medium (3/5)
- Reels/ways: 6x5 grid, cluster pays (5+ connected symbols)
- Hit rhythm: ~39.51% hit frequency, so you’re landing something on roughly two of every five spins
Verdict
Get the Cheese is competent, likeable, and entirely forgettable — which is a strange combination to sit with. The cluster-and-jumping-wild loop is well-built, the medium volatility keeps the base game from being a graveyard, and the tiered bonus structure gives you something to chase. But a 10,000x ceiling is modest by Hacksaw’s own standards, and outside of Life’s So Gouda the wins feel thin. I enjoyed my time here without ever being gripped. If you like tidy cluster slots and don’t need every session to be a heart-rate event, it’s a pleasant enough grind. Just don’t expect it to reinvent the wheel of cheese.
SlotWhizz rating: 3.4/5. A solid, well-made cluster slot that never quite escapes “fine” — and remember the built-in house edge means even the friendly 96.31% RTP is designed to take a slice over time.
