I’ll admit I did a double-take when this loaded. The original Cash Truck was a gritty heist-movie affair, all armoured vans and getaway drivers. Cash Truck Begins keeps the name but yanks the whole thing back to a muddy medieval road, swapping the truck for a gold-laden wagon and the balaclavas for something closer to a bandit-fantasy backdrop. It’s a strange pivot, and I’m not sure the theme entirely earns the “Begins” tag beyond marketing. That said, Quickspin know how to make a slot look expensive. The art is crisp, the reels sit against a nicely painted forest road, and the bonus-round animations have real punch. It’s handsome. It’s also a little soulless, in the way a lot of these franchise reboots are.

How it plays

Base game is a 5-reel setup that starts at four rows and can push out to seven, scaling the ways-to-win up toward the full 16,807. So it breathes when it wants to. In practice, the base game is the usual high-volatility slog: long dry patches, tumbling reels chipping away, and a Second Chance nudge that clears the play area and re-drops when you land exactly two scatters and just miss the trigger. Bets run from 0.20 to 100 a spin. I spent a good while on the demo, honestly, the base game is filler. Everything here is engineered to funnel you toward the bonus, and the game barely pretends otherwise. Worth noting: the 3x3 Big Wild people talk about is a bonus-round payoff, not a base-game rescue — it drops into the centre once every position has unlocked and the tumbles run dry.

The feature

The headline act is the Bonus Game, a Hold ‘n Win-style round triggered by three or more Bonus Scatters. You get three spins, and the counter resets to three every time a new symbol lands, cash-collect style. Land nothing and it ticks down. Where it gets interesting is the symbol zoo: Grabbers add every other symbol’s value to their own, Doublers double each reset, Zappers and Boosters (plus their “Brutal” upgraded variants, and an Upgrader) pile on multipliers, and Expander symbols unlock fresh grid positions to grow the play area mid-round. Trigger with more than three scatters and you start with an extra Expander in play. It’s genuinely well-designed, and when the Brutal variants start chaining, you feel the pull toward the 20,000x ceiling, which is exactly where the “Max Raid” cap lands and ends the round. There’s a bonus buy too, and here I’d flag a wrinkle: Quickspin’s own game page lists 75x for the 3-scatter entry and 375x for the 5-scatter version, while several third-party review sites quote a cheaper 40x/185x. Check the price in your client before you commit either way — and approach with caution regardless.

Verdict

Cash Truck Begins is a competent, good-looking Hold ‘n Win with a genuinely clever bonus symbol economy and a healthy 20,000x top end. The problem is familiarity: this is essentially the latest Cash Truck wearing a fantasy costume, and if you’ve played the franchise — right through to Cash Truck 3 Turbo — you’ve felt all of this before. The base game is dead air, the RTP variant spread is a red flag worth checking, and 20,000x is respectable without being remarkable in 2025. Fun in the bonus, forgettable outside it.
