I’ve lost count of how many “Book of” games have crossed my desk, and Book of Candy is Pragmatic Play deciding the one thing the genre was missing was tooth decay. Out goes the dusty tomb, in comes a candy-land backdrop of lollipop swirls, gummy hills and a book bound in what looks like a chocolate wrapper. It’s bright, it’s clean, and it’s competently drawn — the sort of art that photographs well in a promo banner. The low-value symbols are the usual card royals given a sugar-glaze, while the highs are jellies and wrapped sweets. The soundtrack is a chirpy little loop that I muted after about four minutes. Presentation-wise there’s nothing wrong here, but nothing that lingers either; it’s a reskin, and it knows it.

How it plays

Mechanically this is Book of Ra with a sweet tooth, and I mean that almost literally. Five reels, three rows, ten paylines, bets left-to-right. The Book is your combined Wild and Scatter — it stands in for any regular symbol, land three or more anywhere, it opens the bonus. Base-game spins are the familiar thin gruel of the format: modest line wins that mostly nibble at your stake while you wait for books. There’s a Bonus Buy for those who can’t stand the waiting. There’s also a Super Spin Ante Bet, but be clear on what it is: for 10x your total stake per spin, every base spin runs with a pre-selected expanding symbol — bonus-style action bolted onto the base game at a steep price, not a gentle trigger-frequency nudge. Standard-issue, with a pricey twist.

The feature

The main event is the Free Spins round, and it runs the classic expanding-symbol formula. Three Books award 10 free spins, and before they begin you pick one symbol to become the “special” expanding symbol for the whole round. Land enough of your chosen symbol during a spin and it expands vertically to fill its entire reel, paying across every line it covers regardless of adjacency — which is exactly how these games manufacture their big hits. Pick a high-value symbol for fewer, fatter payouts; pick a low for more frequent, smaller ones. Books retrigger the round indefinitely. There are no win multipliers layered on top — the expansion does all the heavy lifting, and that’s where the entire 5,000x ceiling lives.

Verdict

Book of Candy is a perfectly serviceable Book-of clone that does absolutely nothing to move the genre forward. The maths are honest, the RTP is respectable (on its top tier), and when the expanding symbol behaves the free spins can genuinely pop — but 5,000x is a fairly modest ceiling by today’s standards, and I’ve played this exact game a hundred times with different wallpaper. If you love the format, you’ll be comfortable here; if you’re hunting novelty, look elsewhere. For contrast, a game like 1429 Uncharted Seas (Thunderkick) offers a much friendlier ~98.6% RTP with low volatility — a genuinely different risk profile from this high-variance grind. Book of Candy is competent, not memorable.
