Bison Rising Gold Strike

I’ve played enough prairie-themed slots to hear the pan-flute in my sleep, so I sat down with Blueprint Gaming’s Bison Rising Gold Strike (September 2024) fully expecting another buffalo re-tread. It’s better than that. Not brilliant, but better.

Theme & presentation

It’s bison. Again. Golden-hour plains, big shaggy beasts, wolves, eagles, and the usual A-K-Q-J low-pays dressed up in wood grain. Blueprint keeps the American West look clean and warm rather than garish, and the audio does that swelling orchestral thing every time cash chips start dropping. Competent, cozy, entirely forgettable the moment you close the tab. If you’ve seen Bison Rising Megaways, you know the mood board already.

How it plays

Six reels, four rows, 4,096 ways to win — the fixed-grid cousin of the Megaways original. Wins pay left-to-right on matching symbols across adjacent reels, and the drumbeat of the base game is the Gold Strike Cash Collect mechanic: gold cash chips land carrying values, and when a Collect symbol shows up on reel 1 or 6, it sweeps every visible cash value on screen. There are Cashpot chips baked in too, ranging from small multiples up to a chunky 2,500x jackpot chip. It’s the modern “cash-collect” template — Money Train did it, everyone copied it — but it keeps the base spins from feeling dead between features.

The feature

Trigger the bonus with three-plus scatters and Blueprint hands you a choice, which I like. Option one is Wild Strike: 8 free spins with an increasing Wild Multiplier that climbs +1 every time a Wild lands and multiplies all wins by the current value. Option two is Cash Strike, a single-respin cash-collect round using only Cash, Pot, Collect and Lightning Bolt symbols, respinning until it runs dry — high-tension, one-and-done. There’s also a Feature Buy at 75x stake if patience isn’t your virtue. The pick-your-poison setup is the game’s best idea; Wild Strike is the grind, Cash Strike is the coin flip.

Verdict

Bison Rising Gold Strike is a solid, unspectacular upgrade on its Megaways predecessor. The dual-bonus choice adds a genuine decision, the cash-collect base game ticks along, and 10,000x is a respectable-if-not-jaw-dropping ceiling. But the 96% RTP is plain vanilla, the theme is one you’ve grazed a hundred times, and the high variance means most sessions end with the bison walking off with your stake. Good, not great.
