If you have played one Big Bass game, you already know the postcard: tropical water the colour of a swimming-pool advert, a grinning fisherman in a bucket hat, and reels stuffed with tackle boxes, lures, rods and boats. Bigger Bass Splash doesn’t reinvent any of that. It’s the same sun-drenched, slightly plasticky Pragmatic house style (built by studio Reel Kingdom), competently rendered, with the familiar folksy guitar-and-splash soundtrack that will either soothe you or drill into your skull by spin fifty. It’s pleasant. It’s also the eighth or ninth variation on a jetty I’ve stood on before, and “bigger” here refers more to marketing than to any real visual ambition. I smiled for about ninety seconds, then settled in.

How it plays

Standard fare: 5 reels, 4 rows, 12 fixed paylines. The base game is a waiting room. You’re spinning to land the green fish-on-a-hook scatters, honestly, not much else matters. The premium fish and tackle symbols top out around 200x for a five-of-a-kind, which sounds fine until you realise the base game almost never wants to give you those either. Hit rhythm is roughly one in six spins for something, but “something” is usually a coins-back nibble rather than a bite. This is a game that is openly, unapologetically all about the bonus, and it doesn’t pretend otherwise.

The feature

The main event is the Free Spins round, triggered by 3, 4 or 5 scatters for 10, 15 or 20 spins. The signature mechanic is the Fisherman collect: during free spins, every Fisherman wild that lands scoops up the value of all Money (fish) symbols on screen. Every fourth Fisherman you collect retriggers +10 spins and bumps a global multiplier that climbs 2x, then 3x, then a chunky 10x. Before the round starts, up to five random modifiers can drop in More Fish, More Fisherman, extra Hooks/Dynamites/Wipeouts to fatten the reels. There’s also a Bonus Buy (100x, or 350x for the loaded Super version that switches on all the modifiers) if you can’t stand the wait. When the wilds and the 10x tier align, it genuinely sings. Most rounds, they don’t.

Verdict

Bigger Bass Splash is a perfectly serviceable fish-‘em-up that does nothing its predecessors didn’t, and the 5,000x ceiling is modest by today’s standards when rivals routinely dangle 25,000x. The collect-and-multiply feature is the one moment of real tension, but you’ll grind a lot of dead base spins to reach it, and the 95.5% build is the middling of three — the house edge here is not your friend. If you love the series, you’ll be at home. If you don’t, this won’t convert you. It’s fine. Fine is not exciting.
