There comes a point in every reviewer’s life where the fishing rod gets heavy in the hands. Reel Kingdom has spun the Big Bass wheel so many times that I can hum the reel-spin sound in my sleep, and Big Bass Boom (Pragmatic Play, October 2024) is another cast into the same familiar pond. The question, as ever, isn’t whether it’s competent — it always is — but whether there’s a single new fish in the water.

Theme & presentation

Lake at dusk, jaunty banjo-adjacent soundtrack, a grinning angler who has clearly been to this lake 40 games running. It’s the Big Bass house style down to the rippling water and the plop of a landed fish. The “Boom” branding promises explosions; what you get is the usual tackle box with a slightly louder cash-collect chime. Clean, readable, and utterly, comfortably interchangeable with its siblings. No complaints on polish. No surprises either.

How it plays

Standard 5x3 grid, 10 fixed paylines — the series template, untouched. Card royals fill the low end, tackle and boots the mid, and the fisherman Wild is the symbol you’re praying for. Base game is exactly as flat as you’d expect from a high-volatility Big Bass: long dry casts punctuated by the occasional decent line hit.
