I’ve reviewed enough forest-and-wildlife slots to have a chip on my shoulder about them, so I sat down to Almighty Bear Megaways (Blueprint Gaming, October 2024) expecting to be bored., honestly, I mostly was. It’s a good-looking game — that much is fair. You get a big, glowering grizzly perched beside the reels, a pine-forest backdrop with decent depth to it, some tumbling water and a warm sunset palette that’s genuinely easy on the eyes. The symbol art is crisp, the animations are clean, and nothing feels cheap.

But it’s also the fourth or fifth bear-themed Megaways I could name off the top of my head, and Blueprint hasn’t done a single thing here to make this one stick in the memory. The soundtrack is pleasant, forgettable wilderness ambience. It’s competent. It is not interesting.

How it plays

Standard Megaways plumbing, executed well. Six reels down the middle plus the horizontal top reel, giving you the familiar maximum of 117,649 ways to win. Symbols cascade — winners vanish, new ones drop in, and you keep going while wins keep landing. There are Mystery symbols that transform into a single matching regular symbol before payouts resolve, which can occasionally snowball a cascade into something respectable.

Bet range tops out at a modest £10 a spin, which will frustrate high-rollers but suits the game’s grind-until-the-bonus rhythm. The base game is, frankly, a waiting room. You’re not here for it.

The feature

There’s no clever branded bonus round to talk up here — and I respect the honesty of that more than I respect most gimmicks. The feature is simply called Free Spins. Land four or more scatters and you get 12 free spins, with five extra spins for each scatter beyond the fourth. The hook is a progressive win multiplier that starts at x1 and climbs by +1 after every cascade, so a single sustained tumbling sequence is where the real damage gets done. Blueprint also bolts on a Free Spins gamble (double-or-nothing on your trigger) and a bonus buy at a cheap 50x stake. That’s it. Solid, proven, unremarkable.

Verdict

Almighty Bear Megaways is a perfectly serviceable slot that I struggle to feel anything about. The presentation is polished, the 50,000x ceiling is genuinely large, and the escalating-multiplier free spins can pay handsomely on a good run. But the 95% RTP is stingy for the genre, the theme is well-worn, and there isn’t a single mechanic here you haven’t seen done identically elsewhere. It’s fine. “Fine” is not a compliment I hand out with enthusiasm. Worth knowing too: 95% sits a full percentage point or more below the industry-standard 96% many rivals default to, so you’re giving up ground before the reels even spin.
