Wazdan reached into the “space, but make it a fruit machine” drawer and pulled out 9 Burning Stars. It’s a 3x3 grid of glowing star symbols floating over a purple nebula, with the studio’s usual crisp-but-anonymous house style. It looks fine. It sounds fine. It also looks like roughly forty other cosmic cabinet slots, and if you’d told me it was a reskin of a Wazdan classic I wouldn’t argue. There’s no story here, no atmosphere to speak of — just a tidy little grid waiting to be filled with cash symbols. Serviceable, not memorable.

How it plays

This is a 9-reel, 3x3 setup with pay-anywhere clusters rather than fixed lines. The base game is thin on purpose: multiplier symbols worth 2x, 3x, 5x, 7x or 10x can juice a winning cluster, and a single base spin caps out around 100x. But make no mistake — the base game exists to feed the bonus. Land enough scatter/cash symbols and you trigger the main event. Wazdan also bolts on its trademark toys: a Buy Feature and adjustable “Volatility Levels.” Fair warning on that last one — the underlying game is a high-volatility slot, and the setting tunes your session feel, not the maths. Don’t read it as a difficulty slider that lowers the house edge.

Hold the Jackpot is the whole reason to be here. Fill the bonus matrix with Cash symbols and you drop into a respin round: land a cash value, respins reset; a Collector symbol sweeps up everything on the grid; mystery symbols reveal values. Fill every position and you take the Grand Jackpot — a flat 1,500x. It’s a clean, familiar respin loop, executed competently. It is also, by 2020s standards, a very modest ceiling for a Hold-and-Win. You’re grinding a high-vol game for a top prize that plenty of cluster slots hand out on a good base spin.

9 Burning Stars is competent and completely inoffensive, which is exactly its problem. Wazdan built a clean Hold the Jackpot slot with a fair-ish RTP and some nice quality-of-life toggles, then capped it at a 1,500x max win that feels a decade out of date. If you enjoy tight respin loops and don’t chase five-figure multipliers, there’s a pleasant half-hour here. Everyone else has better cosmic Hold-and-Wins to burn a bankroll on. It clears the bar; it never leaps it.
