Theme & presentation
Another year, another festive reskin, and Christmas Catch is Big Time Gaming leaning all the way into the tinsel. It is a Megaways cabinet dressed up in wrapping paper: candy canes, puddings, baubles and a sleigh that hovers above the grid like it is waiting for a tip. I put a few hundred spins through it, and to BTG’s credit the whole thing is warm rather than garish. The colour palette is deep reds and pine greens, the symbols read cleanly at a glance, and the jingling soundtrack is exactly as insistent as you would expect from a slot with “Christmas” in the name. It will not win art awards, but it does not embarrass itself either. This is competent seasonal comfort food — and, for the record, a festive reskin of BTG’s own Golden Catch.
How it plays
Under the wrapping it is pure Megaways: 6 reels, each dropping 2 to 7 symbols, topping out at 117,649 ways to win. Cascading reels do the usual job of clearing winners and dropping fresh symbols for chained hits. Base-game spin cost is 20 credits, with stakes from around 0.20 up to 30 a spin. Honestly, the base game is the least interesting part of the machine. Wins come in dribs and drabs, the cascades occasionally string something together, and the whole thing feels like it is politely tapping its foot until the bonus arrives. That is by design, and it is where the high-volatility label earns its keep.
The feature
The main event is the Sleigh Multiplier free spins, triggered by three Christmas pudding scatters for 10 spins, with +2 spins per extra scatter. Here is the hook: every Sleigh that lands above the reels during free spins carries a multiplier, the first x1, the second x2, the third x3 and upward with no cap I could find. Those Sleighs also drop Gift Bonus prizes worth up to 500x each depending on how loaded their reel is, and those prizes are then boosted by all the in-view Sleigh multipliers. Stack a few high sleighs together on a fat cascade and this is where the 31,430x ceiling actually lives. There is also a Win Exchange quirk: land a win of 100x or more and you can hand back 100x for a guaranteed 10 free spins, or gamble a smaller 25x-plus win on a wheel for the same. It is a genuinely clever bit of player agency, and a Bonus Buy exists if you would rather skip the courtship. I triggered it organically twice in my session; one was a damp squib, one paid a tidy mid-hundred-x. That is the shape of this game.
The numbers, straight
- Max win: 31,430x your stake (verified across BigWinBoard, SlotCatalog and BTG’s own game page)
- RTP: 96.53%
- Volatility: High
- Reels / ways: 6-reel Megaways, up to 117,649 ways to win
- Hit rhythm: Frequent small base-game dribbles; the real money is gated behind the free spins and lands rarely
Verdict
Christmas Catch is a solid, well-built Megaways slot that knows exactly what it is: a high-variance festive lottery ticket where everything of consequence happens in the Sleigh Multiplier bonus. The escalating multipliers and Gift prizes give the feature real top-end teeth, and the Win Exchange is a smarter-than-average twist. But the base game is a patience exercise, the theme is seasonal wallpaper you have seen a dozen times, and 96.53% RTP is fine without being generous. Like every slot, it is built with a house edge baked in, so over time the math favours the casino, not you. Good, not great.
SlotWhizz rating: 3.7/5. Worth a spin in December if you like your volatility spicy and your bonuses multiplier-driven, but temper the expectations that come with a five-figure max win.
