Buffalo Toro is the studio’s attempt to fuse its most bankable character with the most bankable format in the business, and on paper that’s a smart bit of catalogue engineering. In practice it’s a good slot rather than a great one — polished, mechanically busy, and let down by an RTP that Elk really shouldn’t have been shipping in 2022. Theme & presentation

Visually this is Elk doing what Elk does: clean, characterful, expensive-looking. Toro himself is animated with real personality, snorting and stamping across a dusty canyon backdrop, and the buffalo motif is layered in tastefully rather than slapped on. The premium symbols — matadors, revolvers, sheriff badges — sit comfortably against the ways-to-win grid. The soundtrack is a spaghetti-western strut with the occasional bull-charge crescendo, and it does lift when the reels get moving. Honestly, presentation is the game’s strongest suit. It never looks cheap, and the Toro character work carries a theme that could easily have felt like a cynical mash-up.
